The Jedi Order was founded as a philosophical study group. Its origins trace back to the earliest days of the Republic, many millenia in the distant past. The ancient Jedi spent centuries contemplating the mysterious energy field known as the Force. They became masters at manipulating this energy, and chose to use their skills for good and to help those in need. For 25,000 years, the Jedi served as peacemakers of the Galactic Republic, and their interplanetary exploits were legendary. Because emotional attachments could distract Jedi from their missions, and selfishness and desire could lead to the dark side of the Force, many traditions evolved to help maintain the stability of the Order. Marriage was actively discouraged with very few exceptions, and Jedi initiates were rarely older than six months when they began their training. In the New Republic era, the New Jedi Order have abandoned some of these traditions, but the Jedi's commitment to promoting peace and justice in the galaxy remains unchanged.

"Marriage was actively discouraged with very few exceptions"
I wonder what the story of those few exceptions were. The Jedi are extremely strict on this like you said.

The main acception to this code is if a "love bond" will save other lives. An example of this would be Revan and Bastila. Their bond was accepted by the Jedi Council because the bond was so powerful.

It is actually still a good debatable subject on how they discovered this power. I personally go with the idea that it was by accident. Someone that had a high midi-chlorian count used a force power by accident and that person started to study the event.

I figure its ilke all those stories we make on people getting angry, scared, or defensive and just throwing at their hands then saying "wow" when their attacker hits the wall down the street.
